How to Stop Feeling Uptight & Anxious: 5 Things You Should Know

Feeling uptight or anxious is something many of us deal with. But, for most, it doesn’t feel very good. So how can you work past it?

While you certainly can’t just look internally and shout, “stop feeling uptight!” you can certainly take steps to get there. Here are 5 ways to get to feeling less anxious.

1. Worrying about things is stressful and unnecessary.

Worrying about those things that you cannot control is something that many women struggle with.

Whether it’s the “if, then” conundrum or learning to be happy now, we tend to worry about situations that haven’t even happened yet.

And what for?! Of course, it’s great to hope for the best and plan for the worst (and I’m a huge believer in it!), but there’s no need to sit around worrying about what could be.

2. You’ll waste a ton of time being worried and uptight.

Imagine all the time you’ve spent being anxious or uptight. Better yet, imagine all the time you haven’t fully been able to enjoy yourself or be yourself because you’ve been too anxious or uptight.

It’s a lot of time, right?

While you won’t be able to gain this back – or change over night – you can certainly work to catch yourself in those moments to try to then snap yourself out of it. Don’t beat yourself up over how you’ve been in the past; simply change it moving forward.

3. Sometimes you have to roll with the punches and be more easy going.

It’s not easy for someone who tends to be anxious to suddenly switch gears and become easy going…but you’ll be a lot happier if you try.

Start being more aware of what triggers your anxiety, and start letting some things go. Think more about what does really matter in life, and what doesn’t matter quite as much. Let go of the things that don’t matter and simply go more with the flow little by little.

4. Sometimes it’s better to care less.

It’s hard to strike the balance between caring too much vs. not caring at all. But, for those of us who are anxious, we tend to care a lot about a lot.

Just as you should let things go and be more easy going (to be happier), it’s also important to stop caring quite so much.

5. Learn you can’t control everything.

The sooner you learn that, the better.

Often, I find that anxiety or being uptight stems from needing to have control over everything. You’ll notice the trend here: let go and accept the fact that you won’t be able to control everything. And that’s ok!

What fun is life without a little mystery or lack of control?

I know it sounds scary when you’re used to having all the control, but letting it go just a bit will leave you feeling far more calm and comfortable.

What are some ways you’ve learned to be less uptight or less anxious?
