What To Do When You’re Feeling “Bleh”
It happens to the best of us…that feeling of being unproductive or unmotivated…or stuck…or maybe even a little cabin fever-y.
I think it’s pretty typical for this time of year – the spring – since you’re ready to get outside again after a long winter indoors (depending on where you live geographically).
Here are a few ways to combat that “bleh” feeling.
Change what you’re doing
Especially when it comes to work, it’s easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day. Sometimes, just mixing up the tasks at hand can help them not feel as mundane.
For instance, if there’s something you’ve been putting off, focus and get it done. Then, follow it up with something you’ve been looking forward to doing.
Change your scenery
When I’m feeling stuck, I know one of the best things I can do for myself is change the scenery. Since I work from home, I have the luxury of moving around the house; I tend to go through phases of where I feel most productive and inspired. (Currently, that place is our Florida room, where I can enjoy being outside!)
Whether it’s during work or play that you’re feeling “bleh,” try moving around the best you can to see if it helps!
Do what you love
What is it that you really enjoy doing but don’t often allow yourself to do? Is it going for a walk on the beach? Or spending some time reading by yourself? Or meeting a friend for coffee?
So often, we are focused on those day-to-day tasks, but don’t make room for the things that we really enjoy.
Last, but certainly not least, getting out of a funk by trying something new or different.
How about that art class you’ve always wanted to try but never had the guts? Or how about that cool Groupon for a new experience (skydiving? horseback riding? swimming with manatees?!)? Or how about something out of your comfort zone, like going to the movies alone.
Wherever your creativity lies…experiment! Make some things happen and I bet you’ll be out of your “bleh” mood in no time!
