I love me a good soy or almond milk latte, but I don’t like the $5+ charge for it at my local coffee house or Starbucks.
But did you know you could make your own delicious coffee drinks at home? And here’s the real kicker….you can make one without an espresso machine!
You heard me right. Java fanatics, unite.
1. Make the “espresso”
We don’t have an espresso machine, but we do use a handy, dandy stovetop espresso maker. This little Italian wonder makes delicious coffee/espresso, depending on how many grounds you put in.
If you’re not looking to make any more coffee maker purchases, you can also brew super strong coffee however you normally make it.
2. Add your “dairy”
Feel free to use milk, but I prefer soy or almond milk. At home, it’s usually almond. Pop your dairy into a mason jar.
3. Shake, shake, shake!
The most important part of this process is adding air to your dairy for that frothiness/foam that the latte has. Cover your mason jar and shake for a good 30 seconds – 1 minute.
Uncover your mason jar and put it into the microwave. With non-dairy milks like soy or almond milk, 20-30 seconds usually does the trick. You may need to play around with this, depending on what you use. You want it relatively warm, but not piping hot.
5. Pour and enjoy!
If you want to get really fancy and be sure you don’t mix the foam, use a spoon as you pour your dairy into the espresso, then pour the foam on top. Enjoy!
