How to Improve Your Balance: What Happens When You’re Not “On” In Every Aspect in the Checklist of Your Life

Do you ever have the feeling like you’re really “on” with certain areas of your life…while other areas fall behind?

Does it feel like you’re checking off your “life” checklist and a few areas feel like they’re 100%+ complete for the day, while others are at 0%?

I feel you, girl.

What’s a life checklist?

If you’re not quite sure what I mean, never fear. Here’s my example “checklist” for my life:

  • Relationships
    • Marriage
    • Family
    • Friends
  • Home
    • Chores
    • Meal preparation
    • Dog care
  • Self-care
    • Fitness/nutrition
    • Meditation
    • Journal
    • Baths/spa
    • Therapy/groups
  • Work
    • Regular projects
    • Blogging/writing
    • Passion projects

Ready to create harmony in your busy life?

So what do you do when you’re in balance in only certain areas?

Celebrate.

First…celebrate the fact that you’re rocking certain areas of your life! You’re killing it, after all.

So take the time to give yourself a pat on the back for doing great in the checklist of your life.

Be aware of it & accept it.

Next, accept that you are going to ebb and flow with certain areas. For example, you may be doing great in your relationships and in work, but you’re falling behind in the self-care area of life.

And guess what? That’s ok.

Unfortunately, try as you might, you’re never going to be 100% in every single area of your life. (And trust me, I have to tell myself this on a regular basis.)

You may have a day or two when you’re “on” with everything in your life, but ask yourself: how sustainable is that, really? Just as it’s impossible to be perfect, it’s also impossible to be able to check all the items off your life checklist.

So be aware of it and then accept it, so that you can…

Move forward.

If (and when) you feel yourself falling behind on certain areas in life, have become aware and accepted it, you’re ready to move forward.

Let’s say you’ve felt yourself falling behind in the self-care area, but have been “on” everywhere else. Take some time to do something for yourself that day: whether it’s 5 minutes to meditate, taking a bath, giving yourself a facial, getting your nails done, etc.

Take the time to pull forward the area that you feel you’re lacking. Take the time to find that balance in your life.

Have you ever found there’s a feeling of imbalance in your life? What did you do about it?
