What’s the Secret to Happiness?

Last year, we bought an electrical outlet cover for behind my son’s crib.

Normally that would have been just the job for my hubby to handle, but I decided I was going to get it done myself.

So Roman and I turned off the power, moved the crib, installed the cover, and turned everything back on. My babe was that much safer in his bed and I’d accomplished the task all by myself.

It was such a simple thing, but it felt oh-so-good to have it done. But it was more than that…I was on a high about it for a majority of the day!

That got me to thinking…had I just discovered the secret to happiness?

If you’ve read any self development books, listened to any podcasts, or watch any videos, you may have heard of a similar premise. Here it is, the secret to happiness:

The secret to happiness is solving problems and accomplishing tasks.

But it doesn’t end there. There are few things you’ll have to keep in mind.

It’s simple, but it’s not always easy.

Coming up against obstacles can be challenging; it’s often not a straight line to solving problems, especially the big ones.

So keep in mind that even the most difficult challenges will be well worth it in the end.

Ready to create harmony in your busy life?

It’s constant.

Another important aspect of this theory on happiness is that solving problems and accomplishing tasks is a never-ending state. In other words, I’m not going to feel happy forever simply because I accomplished the task of installing the electrical cover.

You have to feel the downs to feel the ups.

In order to feel those terrific high highs of happiness, you also have to feel the low lows of sadness. Most of us won’t feel true appreciation for happiness without feeling the opposite.

That means that the lows will come, even when you’re solving problems and accomplishing tasks. But don’t worry, happiness is just around the corner.

Solve the right problems.

Many of us stay busy and it feels good for a moment, but these are sometimes the urgent (and not important) tasks. In other words, you can remain busy forever, but if you’re not working towards your big goals and aspirations in small ways, then you’re never going to get there.

Keep working toward your big goals by accomplishing those small steps every single day.
