Hey, we’ve all been there! In fact, I struggle with a good morning routine regularly. This post is here to help get you out of that slow morning slump and motivate you to get things done.
“How?” you ask? By setting up a stellar morning routine that will lead to a day of success. (You can thank me later!)
If you’re going to be successful at anything you do in life, it should always start with a solid morning routine. I know you’ve tried morning routines and they didn’t work. Come along with me, and let’s get some good habits established.
4 Steps to Developing Your Morning Routine
1. Don’t overdo it.
If you are just now starting your morning routine, you want to take baby steps, or you’ll get discouraged. Pick just one simple action you want to implement to start — such as waking up and opening your window to your room or turning on your favorite music playlist.
2. What’s your “why”?
Ask yourself why you are starting a morning routine. What is it that you want to succeed at? Maybe it’s something as simple as being a better housekeeper, or perhaps it’s something big like learning a new skill.
3. Stay consistent.
On average, it can take up to 21 days to develop a new habit…but it can take even longer too! Stay consistent with your new morning routine and give yourself a break if (and when!) you miss a day or two.
4. Help yourself out.
Create reminders for yourself yourself reminders — like a sticky note on your nightstand. You could also have your clothes laid out ready to go, so nothing distracts you in the morning from getting dressed first thing.
Now that we have the “how” established for your morning routine, we can move to the “what.”
There are two important things I want you to remember before we get started:
1. What does your morning look like? It’s essential to have a solid routine to give you stability each and every morning. Having a morning routine for success can also help rid you of procrastination habits and encourage you to be successful.
2. Your morning routine has to be custom for you; it will fail if you give yourself challenging tasks or tasks that aren’t interesting to you or don’t set your day off on the right path.
7 Morning Routine Options to Try
Here is a list of things you can begin to implement into your daily routine. Choose the things that will be doable for you and then gradually add to your routine as you see necessary.
1. Wake at the same time every day.
The system in our body that regulates our sleep pattern is called the circadian rhythm. If you choose to start getting up slightly earlier, you might find it difficult. But when you begin waking up at the same time every morning, you’ll start to notice it becomes easier because your sleep patterns will start to adjust.
2. Get natural light first thing.
Another thing that will help your circadian rhythm is getting natural light in your room first thing in the morning. Consider opening your windows or blinds, or get some fresh air first thing in the morning. If your bedroom is naturally very dark, consider getting a sunlight lamp.
3. Avoid your cell phone.
To some, this may seem impossible; just try it. When you first wake up, mindless scrolling can waste a lot of valuable time and get you started in the wrong headspace. You might happen to read or see something that will change the tone of your morning.
4. Choose something spiritual.
Meditate, pray, read a devotional, or do something that will allow you to clear all of your thoughts or help you process them. Meditation is powerful and has so many benefits. Removing thoughts or processing through them first thing in the morning will help to get rid of stress that can overwhelm you throughout the day.
5. Eat a well balanced breakfast.
Eating breakfast should go without saying, but often, moms get so busy feeding everyone else that we forget our own nourishment and end up eating unhealthy junk or settling for another cup of coffee. With this part of your routine, you can eat before anyone else in the house even wakes up.

6. Get moving.
If you can get up and get moving, it’s a great way to start the day! Exercising will get your heart rate up and your adrenaline pumping. You can also mark this huge accomplishment off your to-do list for the day.
7. Eat the frog.
Choose just one task to do first thing in the morning: something that is either easy to accomplish — like folding the laundry or going through a course — or the biggest task of the day — like one you’ve been putting off. Whatever it is, now’s the time to do it. Accomplish one task to cross off the list to get your day off to the right start.
