When you use a search engine, you’re not just inputting your query.

You’re trying to see how you’re ranking. We get it.
But the results aren’t even a little accurate. Here are 4 reasons why you shouldn’t be Googling yourself.
1. Personalized results
From your location to personalized information (due to being logged into your Google account) to recent searches and more, the search engines use curated information to give us the most accurate results they can muster.
That means the results you’re seeing aren’t anywhere close to the results someone right next to you might see on their device.

2. Searching for the wrong terms
Depending on your SEO knowledge, it’s very possible that you may not be searching for the same terms that your target audience is.
In other words, you may be Googling terms that you’re either 1) ranking well for but no one else is searching for, or 2) ranking poorly for but no one is searching for.
3. Skewing Ads data
If you know anything about your digital marketing campaigns, you already know that you’re going to skew your data by Googling yourself and — even worse — clicking on any ads you might be running.
Obviously clicking on your ads results in more ad spend, but by adding more impressions (or views of your ad), you’re also skewing the numbers.
4. Unreliable data
All in all, you’re not getting reliable information when you Google yourself.
Instead, use a combination of powerful tools — like Google Analytics and Google Search Console — to determine both rankings and search traffic for given keywords.
Using these tools is a far better use of your time than Googling yourself any day of the week!
