Some popular platforms for blogposts or articles include your own blog, LinkedIn Pulse, Medium, Quora, and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also plenty of verticals or niche platforms that make sense for unique industries to publish content on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Should you re-publish your content?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, there has been a lot of research around the issues&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.copyblogger.com\/digital-sharecropping\/\">sharecropping your digital content<\/a>&nbsp;(or effectively relying on a single medium for your online success). In other words: focusing on a single medium (such as only publishing content on your own blog and nowhere else) won\u2019t get you as far as publishing on multiple platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While our rule of thumb has always been to&nbsp;<strong>take a single piece of content and link to it in as many places as possible<\/strong>, we haven\u2019t always been big believers in re-publishing the actual content itself in multiple places. The reason being is \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/simplesprout\/2019\/08\/10\/duplicating-re-publishing-re-purposing-content-what-are-the-issues-part-i\/\">as we stated last time<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Google will choose the main source of content as the result shown the SERP (Search Engine Results Page).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you can publish&nbsp;the same content without giving authority to the main source (using the&nbsp;<em>rel=\u201dcanonical\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>tag). For more information on all of this \u2013 that isn\u2019t&nbsp;<em>too<\/em>&nbsp;geeky \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vwriter.com\/duplicate-content-multi-channel-publishing\/\">check out this great article<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" data-uid=\"1f3da741f0\" src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.ck.page\/1f3da741f0\/index.js\"><\/script>\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h2>Re-Purposing Your Content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong><em>most ideal option<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>when we talk about cross-publishing or multi-channel publishing of your content is by re-purposing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What is re-purposed content?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Re-purposed content is that which has been changed, altered, or otherwise differentiated for different platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an example, I could re-purpose this particular post by&nbsp;re-naming it \u201cWhy You Can Duplicate &amp; Re-Publish Content, But Re-Purposing Will Always Win,\u201d rewriting it to have some of the same information but in a different way, then publishing to a different platform other than my own blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>The Pros of&nbsp;Re-Purposed Content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>By re-purposing your content, you\u2019re giving yourself&nbsp;<strong>additional opportunities to be found<\/strong>&nbsp;online. The search engines will show each post or article result as separate options in order to give the searcher different options to choose.<br><\/li><li>You\u2019ll also&nbsp;<strong>reach a different audience<\/strong>&nbsp;by re-pupurposing your content. If I choose to re-purpose this post on LinkedIn, for example, I\u2019ll have the ability to better reach my LinkedIn audience by doing so.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>The Cons&nbsp;of&nbsp;Re-Purposed Content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>When you re-purpose, you\u2019ll inherently be&nbsp;<strong>spending more time<\/strong>&nbsp;to do so. Re-purposing means significantly re-writing a post, which takes time.<br><\/li><li>You&nbsp;<strong>won\u2019t always get the best bang for your buck<\/strong>. The hope in re-purposing your content is, of course, to reach a wider audience and have additional opportunities to be found\u2026but that won\u2019t always happen. Often, the content that you think won\u2019t get a lot of traction goes viral and those posts you\u2019ve put a lot of thought into don\u2019t go anywhere. <br><br>Point being: don\u2019t expect that just because you\u2019ve spent the time and worked hard on a single piece of content that it will always get the interest you want to see.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>And there you have it\u2026the differences and issues between duplicate, re-published, and re-purposed content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find out what\u2019s going to be best for you and your content by experimenting and trying new things.
