After attending the inaugural WordCamp Jacksonville<\/a>, I\u2019m still reeling from all the great information I got and connections I made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even a few days later, I realize how important these types of conferences \u2013 and this community \u2013 can be\u2026and if you\u2019re anything like I was, you aren\u2019t taking advantage of a great opportunity yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what is WordCamp?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

First things first, maybe you haven\u2019t heard of WordCamp. (And that\u2019s ok!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WordCamps<\/a> are WordPress-centered conferences for web geeks of all shapes and sizes: from web developers and designers to SEOs and social media professionals to copywriters and bloggers. (Here\u2019s a great Infographic that goes more in depth about what WordCamps are all about.)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So now let\u2019s get down to it\u2026here are 5 reasons why you should attend your local WordCamp.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. It\u2019s inexpensive.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s get over the cost issue right now, as it ends up being the reason most of us don\u2019t attend large conferences. For most WordCamps, you\u2019ll only pay about $30 \u2013 $40 for an entire weekend\u2019s worth of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared to most other web conferences, that\u2019s nothing<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, when you\u2019re attending your local WordCamp, you won\u2019t have to pay for hotel or travel expenses. (When you\u2019re traveling from afar, it\u2019s something to consider.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. You\u2019ll learn a thing or two.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

(or twenty.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve gotten more than a handful of valuable takeaways at every WordCamp I\u2019ve attended. (Because learning stuff at a conference is important, right?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even as a marketing person, I can gained insights into things I didn\u2019t know, got lessons from beginner designer\/developer talks, and more. For a designer or developer, there\u2019s probably\u00a0even more<\/em>\u00a0valuable information and specifics on topics you may not know much about yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
