{"id":401,"date":"2013-01-21T03:39:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T03:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/wp\/?p=20"},"modified":"2021-04-13T19:11:42","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T19:11:42","slug":"why-groupon-and-livingsocial-deals-are-great-for-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/simplesprout\/2013\/01\/21\/why-groupon-and-livingsocial-deals-are-great-for-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Groupon and LivingSocial Deals Are Great for Businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A while back, I got some beef for talking about a great experience I had swimming with manatees thanks to a Groupon deal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The person explained that businesses offer their services for\u00a0little to no profit and that, since I wouldn\u2019t be a repeat customer, I wasn\u2019t actually doing them any good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Groupon-business-deals-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I beg to differ, but we\u2019ll get to that in a second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve talked to several business owners now who have participated in these deals about whether it was worth it to them or not. It seems that, overall, it was. The reason was typically dependent on the industry they are in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You&nbsp;<em>can<\/em>&nbsp;make money<\/strong>\u2026indirectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a business is offering a deal through one of these sites and barely making a profit, that\u2019s on them\u2026not me. It\u2019s simply not good business to be offering one of these deals for little to no profit. A company should first figure out what the&nbsp;<em>minimum<\/em>&nbsp;amount is that they could charge for a product or service \u2013 while still walking away with a profit \u2013 and go from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No, they\u2019re not going to make millions off of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingsocial.com\/\">LivingSocial<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.groupon.com\/\">Groupon<\/a>, so let\u2019s talk about some reasons why businesses can indirectly make money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" data-uid=\"9a4e83d7d9\" src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.ck.page\/9a4e83d7d9\/index.js\"><\/script>\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h2>People talk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure,<strong>&nbsp;people talk more when they\u2019re&nbsp;dissatisfied&nbsp;<\/strong>with a product or service than when they\u2019re satisfied. But if you got a great deal and you\u2019re happy? You are talking, my friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not going swimming with manatees again anytime soon because it was a once in a lifetime experience. I did, however, tell&nbsp;<em>everyone I knew<\/em>&nbsp;that 1) the deal was available, 2) it was an amazing experience, and 3)&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.manateetouranddive.com\/\">this company<\/a>&nbsp;did a spectacular job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few of my friends ended up buying the deal (cha-ching!) and a few of my friends and family from afar said they wanted to do it&nbsp;<em>regardless of there being a deal<\/em>&nbsp;when they came to visit (cha-ching! cha-ching!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>You&nbsp;<em>can&nbsp;<\/em>get repeat customers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Like I said, I\u2019m not going to go swimming with manatees every year. It was a helluva deal and not a bad drive, but I\u2019m not going to do it again any time soon. Unfortunately, this isn\u2019t the reason the manatee tours company is going to be seeing any big bucks from deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there have been several deals I\u2019ve bought, done, and become a long time supporter of. Most notably,&nbsp;the gym I go to&nbsp;began as a deal. Once I saw how amazing this place was, I just&nbsp;<em>had<\/em>&nbsp;to keep going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>What\u2019s the takeaway?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about it. Are one-in-a-lifetime experience companies like the Manatee Tour really going to get repeat customers anyway? No, of course not. They thrive on&nbsp;<em>new business<\/em>, which is why online deals work so well for them: they get the word out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And how about a business like a gym? Sure, people may talk, but what\u2019s really beneficial is the repeat business they end up getting out it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So should you run a deal for your business every month?<\/strong> Absolutely not. Once in a while? Sure\u2026why not?! The worst that could happen is you get a few new customers \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group wp-block-post-footer\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div
