You\u2019re going to have difficult conversations at the get-go and many more along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think going into business with your brother or sister is going to be a good idea, think with your business mind first. Have a conversation and ask some tough, realistic questions. Will you both be responsible enough? Will you both work as hard as if you were working with someone who\u00a0<em>wasn\u2019t<\/em>\u00a0your sibling? Will you be able to trust the other one enough? The list goes on and on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" data-uid=\"9a4e83d7d9\" src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.ck.page\/9a4e83d7d9\/index.js\"><\/script>\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h2>Know that there will be great days\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Should you decide to go into business with your sibling, know that it has the ability to be a&nbsp;<em>fantastic&nbsp;<\/em>situation for the both of you. You\u2019ll have moments where you love working with the other person, just like any other coworker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>\u2026and also not-so-great days.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But don\u2019t kid yourself when you think you won\u2019t have difficult times, too. Working with family, unlike just a coworker, can cause you to have much more candid conversations, lose your cool more quickly, and also spill into your personal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/03\/photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-469\"\/><figcaption>My brother, Corey, and I (1992)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>Develop rules that work for both of you.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Being prepared to work with your sibling or family member can make or break your business\u2026and your relationship. Here are just a few of the things I\u2019ve learned working with my brother over the past year and a half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Spell everything out at the beginning:&nbsp;<\/strong>As I mentioned above, it\u2019s key to get difficult conversations out of the way at the very beginning. Who\u2019s handling the finances? How are you going to problem solve if there\u2019s an issue? No matter what your business relationship, these conversations need to be ironed out before you take any more steps.<br><\/li><li><strong>Keep barriers between your personal and professional relationships:<\/strong>&nbsp;As an example, at a certain point, I found myself calling my brother to catch up and&nbsp;<em>only<\/em>&nbsp;talking about business the whole time. For a time, that strained our relationship. So, I made it a point to have calls where we would not discuss anything about business.<br><\/li><li><strong>Don\u2019t go to bed angry:&nbsp;<\/strong>Just like working with a spouse or other family member, it\u2019s important to talk through issues as they come. And again and most importantly: don\u2019t ever let business spill into your personal relationship.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Do you work with a family member?
