It\u2019s been a few years since we talked about how to become a better writer<\/a>, so we\u2019re revisiting it today with the updated version: how to be a better blogger<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you\u2019ve been blogging for a while or are just starting out, there\u2019s always room for improvement when it comes to writing for the web. (After all, it\u2019s very different than other types of writing.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are four (updated) ways to be a better blogger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Brainstorm in the car<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Have you ever heard how people brainstorm the best ideas in the shower? The same goes for any other activity where you\u2019re (essentially) on autopilot (driving, cooking, cleaning, and so on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use these opportunities to your advantage by brainstorming new ideas, rather than listening to the radio or your last favorite book on tape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The car is one of my favorite spots to brainstorm new ideas because I can easily record a memo on my phone with a post idea \u2013 or even the entire post! (I\u2019ll later transcribe the verbal post into written form once I\u2019m at my computer.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Look at your competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While I\u2019d never recommend copying<\/em> the competition, you can certainly draw some great inspiration <\/em>from them. (That\u2019s why reading regularly is so important!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get inspired by similar posts in your field and expand upon the idea of another blogger, take a different stance, or even get inspired for a new format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
