Rise & Shine: 5 Ways to Start Your Morning and Take on the Day
The things you do after first waking up in the morning can have a profound effect on the way the rest of your day is going to go.
Here are 5 ways to never feel like you “woke up on the wrong side of the bed” again.

1. Get plenty of sleep
It goes without saying that we all function better with the right amount of (restful) sleep.
Most adults need about 7-8 hours, but I have plenty of friends that actually function much better on closer to 9 hours.
2. Do a 5-minute yoga session
It’s not called a “sun salutation” just for the alliteration. Yoga in the morning is a great way to wake up your body and mind; plus you get a great little stretch in!
(Throughout the day, incorporate yoga to continue feeling fresh. Downward dog, for example, is a great pose to feel revived and have better focus.)

3. Eat a balanced breakfast
Again, something you should already know. But so many people wait to eat for several hours after they wake up or skip breakfast altogether.
As the most important meal of the day, it’s vital to get your metabolism jumpstarted so that you’ll be able to take on your day in a big way.
4. Drink water
I’ve always heard it’s important to drink water first thing in the morning, but I recently read why.
You just went 8 straight hours without drinking any water, so you are most certainly dehydrated. Also, I personally notice that if I have water first thing, I’m much more apt to be good about drinking water for the rest of the day!
5. Put together a plan
What are you going to accomplish for the day? It may seem a little OCD, but having goals and plans for the day will help you feel accomplished and start your day with a great, optimistic energy!
