How to Live (a Little More) Offline in a Digital World

How much time do you spend online or on Facebook instead of with your family?

How much time do you spend texting or in front of the TV instead of experiencing the real world? Instead of having adventures of your own rather than watching other people having adventures online?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, especially as I’ve watched friends spout on and on about their extreme political and world views, obnoxious daily to-do lists, and rants that seem to go on for days.

Just as I would suggest someone does for me, I don’t spend the time reading all of these, but I know they’re there.

Ready to create harmony in your busy life?

With many of the tragic events that have taken place recently, I’ve also seen a lot of people say “farewell” to Facebook and social media until things calm down. Why? Because everyone has an opinion – which is fine. The problem? Everyone feels the need to share it online. And honestly, it’s making the Internet a nasty place to be.

So, what to do? If you’re like me, the Internet may be a huge part of your job. It’d be impossible to quit, cold turkey.

But do you remember all those things you constantly say you should do?

“I should really go for a walk on the beach.”

“I should start meditating.”

“I really should do more yoga.”

“I should go to the gym.”

“I should call my Grandmother and see how she’s doing.”

Well, what if you spent just one hour a day off of your computer, away from your phone, turning off the TV and doing these things?

In a world where we are over stimulated to the max, I think it’s critical we start making time to reconnect with each other, the world around us, and ourselves. But that’s just me.

I want to know what you think. Let me know in the comments below!
