5 Fun Ways to Celebrate Earth Day 2015
Earth Day is a special day. It’s a day to reconvene with nature and renew our respect for the environment and Mother Earth.
I spent my day unplugging as much as I could (a girl’s still gotta work, which means using the computer for me!), spending some time taking photos in my garden, and getting as much fresh air in the great outdoors as possible.
I was curious how friends and family spent their day celebrating, so I went to my social networks and asked.
1. Get outside and convene with nature
Duh. But how about in a fun, creative way? Whether it’s a nature walk, doing yoga outside, or simply doing an activity you don’t normally do, it’s a beautiful way to come together with nature.
Some close friends have family visiting so they visited the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and got in touch with their wild side.
Another friend of mine enjoyed the wonders of her backyard with her family.
2. Say no to meat
That’s right, meat lovers. Going vegetarian or vegan for a day isn’t going to kill any of us. Hell, you may even feel healthier because of it.
Celebrate Earth Day by taking a day off from being a carnivore and enjoy some veggie-only options. There are a ton of recipe resources out there, but Eating Well is one of my personal favorite go-to recipe sources.
3. Pick up trash and recycling
Another friend told me about how she and her son went on a walk and picked up any trash/recycling they found on their journey. What a great way to teach your kids about taking care of the Earth!
If you’re near the water, you can also do a beach clean up, like my cheerleaders have done in the past!
4. Turn off the devices
Turning off the TV, iPod, iPad, iPhone (man, do I have enough Apple products?!), and so on forces you to get closer with those around you. Unplugging also forces (all of us) to take a break from sitting in front of the TV to getting outside and enjoying a little sunshine (see #1).
Bonus: you’re saving electricity and other resources by unplugging.
5. Teach your kids something special
A simple search on Pinterest will turn up tons of great post of fun things you can enjoy with your kiddos. #3 is a great idea, and that’s just the start!
