DIY: A Unique Way to Give Experiences as a Gift for the Holidays
As you get older, you start realizing how much more important experiences are than presents or things. For a while now, I’ve been giving (and getting) experiences for (and from) family and loved ones.
These experiences mean more; whether you’re trying something new or spending quality time with those that you love. And a new experience doesn’t have to break the bank; it can be as simple as an afternoon exploring a new place or a simple Groupon.
Giving an experience a pretty package
Now the only problem I’ve found with giving experiences is that it’s hard to share in a pretty package. Sharing a Groupon voucher is hard to spice up…or is it?
It’s as easy as putting a glorified scrapbook together!
I’ve put together these “experience” books a few times and this Christmas, my boyfriend and I gave one (a day out in Portland) to my parents.
How to put an “experience gift” together
These mini-scrapbooks are just as fun to put together as they are to give. It’s as easy as these three steps:
- Start by buying the experience. Does it involve a Groupon or Living Social voucher? A gift card? A plane ticket? Whatever it is, start with that.
- Hit the craft store! Pick up a small scrapbook (I can usually find one for less than $10) and any decorations you’d like (including paper, stickers, and scrapbook decorations).
- Put your mini-book together! Now it’s time to assemble. Typically I’ll type up a little story or even a fun poem that slowly shares what the experiences is going to be. I may also print out travel plans with a visual path.
Here are some pages from the recent book I’ve created. I also inserted Groupon vouchers and gift cards.
