Three years ago,\u00a0I decided to move to Florida<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a big choice, a hard choice; but also the right choice.\u00a0My best friend was already living here, so we did what made sense: we moved in together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It took a little getting used to, as any roommate situation does. I can be a little uptight about my stuff and she can be a little forgetful. But eventually, we worked together to live \u2013 what I would call \u2013 very, very well together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s an unusual situation that best friends can live together, work together, and do everything together and fight as little as we do. Sure, we have our tiffs; but overall I think we would both agree that it\u2019s a wonderful living arrangement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And herein lies the problem: it was almost\u00a0too<\/em>\u00a0wonderful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little Room for Love<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You see, both Kristen and I\u00a0wish<\/em>\u00a0that we liked women romantically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being lesbians would make our love lives simple; our search for our one true love would be over. Alas, we may be soulmates; but we\u2019re sisters, not lovers. Over time, we\u2019ve realized that being roommates and best friends leaves little room for a true romantic partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This may be a weird psychological mind trip, but when you\u2019re dating and looking for a lifelong partner and best friend, it\u2019s hard to be emotionally available when that need is already being fulfilled. Unfortunately, that job usually only takes one person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Believe me when I say Kristen and I didn\u2019t decide this to go proactively searching for a husband. Far from it. We have both been very focused on our careers and that\u2019s taken priority over the years. At the same time, we didn\u2019t want to end up as 80-year old roommates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re not getting any younger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A few short years shy of 30, we also realized that we\u2019re getting to the age where it\u2019s best to live alone. It may be a societal acceptance issue, but a single 30-something is simply not going to have roommates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve reached a maturity (and hopefully financial) level where sadly it\u2019s just no longer acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing will really change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kristen has been a huge help with taking care of my dog (Brady), listening to my stories, helping me in every situation, and, well, being my BFF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll be at each other\u2019s houses constantly, we\u2019ll still work together, and more than likely call or text each other every day. We\u2019ll continue to be there for each other and we\u2019ll still be best friends, we just won\u2019t be sleeping under the same roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
