How often have you filled your to-do list with tasks you\u00a0<em>knew<\/em>\u00a0were unattainable but tried to go for it anyway?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How many times have you had a list of twenty things to do \u2013 and maybe accomplished three or four \u2013 but felt awful for not getting the rest done?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With all this talk about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/journalwithnicki\/\">journaling<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and simply because we have extraordinarily busy lives \u2013 it\u2019s easy to fill up your daily or weekly to-do list with\u00a0<em>too<\/em>\u00a0many tasks. Really, I applaud you for trying. (And I\u2019ve done it too, so I know your pain.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem with too many tasks is: where does an incomplete to-do list leave us? More often than not: frustrated, unaccomplished, and overwhelmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s time to take control of our to-do list and (actually) accomplish our goals. Here are a few ways to set mini (and achievable) goals or to-do items for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/set-achievable-goals-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1924\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/set-achievable-goals-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/set-achievable-goals-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/set-achievable-goals-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nickiong.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/set-achievable-goals.jpg 1350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>1. Make a list for the week.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not already making a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etsy.com\/listing\/821888964\/weekly-journal-planner-handlettered-a4\">weekly to-do list<\/a>, start now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting everything out of your head and down on paper is one of the best ways to feel focused with what you\u2019re doing, rather than thinking about all you have to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A weekly list is great, as it can help you hone in on what is important to get done for today, as well as what needs to get done for the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>2. Do part of (a whole) project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nickiong.com\/simplesprout\/\">my job<\/a>, I tend to have large projects over the course of several weeks or months. (In other words, there\u2019s\u00a0<em>no way<\/em>\u00a0any one project is getting completed in a single day.)\u00a0I used to write a project down as a to-do item, check it off (because I\u00a0<em>did<\/em>\u00a0work on it),\u00a0but then felt frustrated when it wasn\u2019t\u00a0<em>technically<\/em>\u00a0completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I changed the way I do this, so that I not only feel gratification in checking off an item, but I actually&nbsp;<em>did<\/em>&nbsp;accomplish the task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The secret?<\/em><strong>&nbsp;I split large projects into bite-size pieces.&nbsp;<\/strong>It\u2019s not rocket science, but it did take me a while to connect the dots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, many of my projects have similar steps, so I was able to easily break up the pieces to give me items that made sense for daily tasks. (In fact, my project steps would be a great entry for my\u00a0journal!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, no matter what large project (whether work, home, or play) you have going on, consider breaking it up into actionable steps that make more sense and feel more accomplishable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async data-uid=\"761f21454b\" src=\"https:\/\/nickiong.ck.page\/761f21454b\/index.js\"><\/script>\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h2>3. Define (2) daily goals.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the other things I was finding was that I overloaded my daily to-do lists with&nbsp;<em>so&nbsp;<\/em>many items that I completely overwhelmed myself. I gave myself&nbsp;<em>far<\/em>&nbsp;more to do than any one person could accomplish in 24 hours, let alone 16 waking hours.&nbsp;<em>Of course<\/em>&nbsp;I felt unproductive!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you\u2019re feeling the same way, try this new practice I\u2019ve put into place:&nbsp;<strong>define&nbsp;<em>two<\/em>&nbsp;attainable goals you&nbsp;<em>must<\/em>&nbsp;accomplish today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just two, and no if\u2019s, and\u2019s, or but\u2019s that they need to get done. (These are often items I feel I\u2019ve been putting off\u2026or&nbsp;<em>must<\/em>&nbsp;be accomplished due to an upcoming deadline.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This way, when you check off those two items, you\u2019ll feel accomplished and productive. Plus, more often than not, I find that once I complete my two items, I actually check off a few more\u2026<em>bonus<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>4. Start with the tough goals.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the two goals you chose for the day were likely things you\u2019ve been putting off\u2026start with them! (After all, those are your two main priorities for the day\u2026so&nbsp;<em>don\u2019t<\/em>&nbsp;put them off.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How good will it feel to accomplish your two goals before the end of the day? Maybe before lunchtime?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2xkAxG6\">\u201cEating the frog\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;will ensure that you get your two goals accomplished, and then you can move on to bigger, better, or more fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>How do you accomplish your goals?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group
