4 Common Misconceptions About Web Marketers

Whether you’re an aspiring Web Marketer or have a skewed sense of what your Web Marketer spends their time on, we’re here to displace the myths on all that is Web Marketing.

1. We spend more time on research than anything else.

Sure, we spend time writing, tweeting, Facebooking, and optimizing websites, but the true majority of our time is spent on researching; researching the latest and greatest trends, tricks, and tips to try (say that 3 times fast).

Research comes by way of reading, writing, and trying the latest trends; plus attending the best of the best conferences. Staying on top of the latest trends is precisely how your web marketer stays sharp.

2. We don’t get to play on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

We may be on these sites all day, but we don’t get to play…always. Most of our time spent on social media is sharing, reading, or creating content. (While most of the time on Facebook is spent figuring out how to deal with the latest Facebook update of the day.)

3. We try our best to keep up with Google…but don’t have a direct line to them.

As an SEO, I’d like to think I have a land line direct to Google; but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. When it comes to Google, there’s a constant game of experimentation and attempting to create content that pleases them.

Luckily, the oldest game in the book still wins: Google is trying to make searchers happy; so as long as you create content for them, the ever-mighty Google will be happy, too.

4. We (typically) don’t write code.

I’ve met plenty of web marketers born of web designers/developers, but most of us can’t write code better than the common man. Therefore, we can’t make magic happen when it comes to your website. We’re strategists and content developers and, unfortunately, magic costs extra.
