What Are Your Social Media Goals? (And Why Do You Need Them?)
If you are using social media for your business, incorporating meaningful goals or statistics is critical.
But why should you have goals? And what should those goals even be? Read on to learn more.

Why do you need social media goals?
Like most things in business, social media isn’t worth doing without setting goals. Without them, how do you know if your social campaign is succeeding or failing?
Of course, when you’re just starting out, it’s hard to determine what a good goal should be. After all, you may have no basis for industry standards or what your business should expect. And that’s ok. Start by doing your research and searching for industry statistics. You may or may not come across some good stats that you can start with. Then, once you have some data, you can re-visit your goals.
One of the benefits of social media is that you can acquire statistics and data quickly, so you won’t be stuck waiting around for new and helpful data points.
What are your social media goals?
1. Increase social media reach.
Determine how many fans, followers, or likes you want each month. In order to have a successful social media campaign, growing your reach every month is important.
2. Increase engagement.
What is your goal for likes, favorites, and comments on each network? Social media reach or traffic is great; but it doesn’t mean a lot without engaged fans.
3. Increase traffic.
Now you’re going to measure converting fans or visitors into leads. Tracking how many social media followers come to your blog or website is going to help show this; so be sure to define that goal as well.
4. Increase conversions.
Last but not least: conversions. You’re not using social media just to use it for your business. The end result is more conversions, whether that’s sales, sign-ups, or phone calls for your company. Define your goal and track it each and every month.
Social media marketing doesn’t have to be a scary task. By defining your goals and tracking them each month, you’ll have a clear picture of how your campaigns are performing and how you can improve for the better.
