How to Grow Your Facebook Audience: 4 Easy Steps for Success

Once you have your Facebook business page up and running, you’ll want to start growing your audience there.

After all, if you don’t have likes or engagement on your page, there’s really no point in having one.

So how do you get started?

One of the biggest questions we get from clients with new Facebook pages is: how do I get likes?

Over time, you’ll find you’ll organically increase your audience. Until then, how do you start gaining the right kind of target audience? Here are 4 easy steps.

1. Ask your friends and family.

When you have a new Facebook page, inviting friends and family is a great way to start building an audience. They’ll also help when it comes to initial engagement.

(Remember that Facebook’s News Feed is built on an algorithm based on likes and comments; the more you have of each, the more likely your fans will see your posts.)

To invite friends and family, simply go to your business page and click the “…” under your cover photo. From the dropdown menu, select “Invite Friends” and choose the friends you’d like to invite to like your page.

Your friends will receive a notification from you, telling them you invited them to like your page. From there, it’s up to them to like it or not.

2. Make it clear you’re using social media.

Many new businesses miss the mark here and don’t shout from the rooftops that they’re using social media. Make sure you include social media links everywhere you can, so that your audience knows you’re online.

This can include:

  • Header/footer of your website
  • Social sharing tools
  • Other social media accounts
  • Your personal social accounts
  • Email signature
  • Business card

3. Create ads or boost individual posts.

Especially when you’re first starting out, don’t forget about the power of advertising. Facebook ads and boosts are still relatively inexpensive, so a small investment can go a long way.

Boosting Posts

To boost a post, start by making sure the post makes sense to put a little advertising behind. For example, are you sharing great content or a blogpost you’ve written? Are you pushing a new product or service? Is the post something where you want a little extra engagement? All of these examples are perfect for boosting.

Then, simply click on the “Boost Post” button on an individual post from your Facebook page.

From there, you’re able to target people who like your page, people who like your page and their friends, or people you choose through targeting.

If you’re just starting out, it’s likely you’ll want to boost the post to an audience you choose through targeting. Be sure to identify your accurate target market, including location and age, and your budget. Then Boost away!

Creating Ads

Incorporating Facebook ads into your initial Facebook business page launch is another great way to acquire more fans (and more engagement).

You’ll get many of the same demographics options you saw with boosting posts, plus many more! You can use ads to increase a number of action items, including increasing likes and engagement on your page.

4. Engage your audience.

Last, but certainly not least, is engagement. Never underestimate the power of content. Ultimately, that’s the reason why people will want to like your Facebook page – because you’re providing great content.

In addition to sharing useful and interesting content, you can also engage with your audience through other Facebook pages and Groups.
