Having Trouble With Your Own Marketing? Do This One Thing.

As an entrepreneur, you’re used to operating as a team of one (or just a few) and that means that a lot of jobs fall to your shoulders…including your marketing efforts.

Whether you’re not ready to relinquish control for your business’s marketing or you simply don’t have the budget to outsource right now, you are currently responsible for any and all marketing.

For many entrepreneurs, that heavy responsibility may or may not end up getting accomplished. You may be sporadically marketing or, worse yet, not doing anything at all.

Here’s the one thing you should do if you’re having trouble with your marketing.

From both personal experience and in talking to many of my clients, I know one thing to be true: marketing for your business often gets put on the bottom of the to do list.

You’re really good at what you do and that’s why you’re in business, but marketing is a job unto itself and a second (or even third) job for you, at that.

But if you commit to consistent marketing for your brand until the time when you can outsource it, there’s only one best practice you need:

Treat yourself like a customer.

If you’re like most business owners, you don’t leave your customers high and dry like you might with your marketing efforts. Of course not – they’re why you’re in business.

That’s why treating yourself like a customer will ensure you’ll be more consistent, aware, and proactive about your marketing efforts.

How to treat yourself like a client

Once you get in the practice of treating yourself and your business like a client, you’ll quickly see how consistent marketing will become a regular habit.

Try adding yourself to your workflow in whatever way that works for you. For instance, if you schedule clients on an hourly basis, add yourself to your calendar once or twice a week and work on whatever marketing needs to be done. It could be social media posts, blogging, updates to your website, etc.

Block out the time to handle your marketing and don’t change it; it’s now a non-negotiable. Just like you don’t cancel client meetings/work on a whim, you’re not going to cancel on yourself either.
