Facebook Cover Photos: Need-to-Know Tips & Inspiration Before You Create the Perfect Cover
Your Facebook business page needs a cover photo; simple as that. Without one (much like your profile image or About section), it looks uninhabited.
However, before you slap any old picture up there, there are a few things you should know about Facebook cover photos.
Size matters
One of the most important factors in creating a beautiful cover photo is getting the sizing right. Here are a few important sizing parameters:
- Covers display at 820 pixels wide x 312 pixels tall on your Page on computers and 640 pixels wide x 360 pixels tall on smartphones.
- Covers must be at least 400 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall.
- Loads fastest as an sRGB JPG file and less than 100 kilobytes.
- Covers display at 170×170 pixels on your Page on computers, 128×128 pixels on smartphones and 36×36 pixels on most feature phones.
Follow the rules
While the old 20% text rule has since been removed, there are still certain rules that your business page should follow with its cover.
- Be authentic: your cover shouldn’t be misleading in any way
- Public: remember that your cover photo is always live to the public
- Unique: the cover should be your own and not an advertisement for a partnering company
