3 Non-Financial Goals for Your Business in 2022

The New Year brings the feeling of a fresh start. With it, comes an obligatory need to set goals for the year.

I’m not against goal setting, but entrepreneurs often get too wrapped up in only financial goals and not enough in work-life balance or simply life goals.

Consider trying some of these non-financial goals for a successful 2022.

1. Non-Monetary Goals

There was a reason you became an entrepreneur. For many of us, that reason is freedom.

Time freedom. Work freedom. Life freedom.

Are you getting that kind of freedom in your day-to-day work life, or are you working more than ever? If it’s the latter, it’s time to reconsider your priorities.

A goal for you might be: work no more than 30 hours per week. That way, you’ll have incredibly focused work time, then plenty of time for family, friends, and whatever else you value spending time on.

Other goals might be indirectly related to financial success and what that means to you. For instance, instead of assigning a number to wealth (e.g. “If I make $xxxxx this month, I’ll be happy), get clear on what wealth feels like to you.

A goal for you might be: I want to hire a [private chef, landscaper, cleaner, assistant/other employee, etc.]. Whatever activities don’t bring you joy or give you time that you could devote elsewhere is exactly what you should be working towards.

2. Health Goals

If you don’t think your health and your work are interconnected, think about the last time that exhaustion pushed you to your limits on getting something done.

Healthy eating, exercise, and sleep will help you show up as a happier, more fulfilled version of yourself in all aspects of your life, not just your business.

Try to steer clear of weight loss (or numbers) goals, as they don’t give a good picture. Instead, try to focus on how you’ll feel. A goal for you might be: I want to feel full of energy and good in my skin.

Or try to use numbers in a way that works: I want to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.

Try getting super specific in your goals, like: I want to be in bed by 10:00pm and up by 6:00am. A goal might also be: I want to work out at least 4 days a week.

3. Feelings Goals

Yes, feelings have a place in business too. Think about it: happiness and passion, at a minimum, should come into play. After all, why be in business for yourself if you’re not going to feel happy or passionate about what you’re doing?!

Like the non-monetary suggestions above, feelings goals should be supportive of your intentions for both work and life. For you, that might look like: I want to wake up and feel excited for the work I get to do today.

Or you might try to make your goal more quantitative (and easier to measure). That may look like: I want to help more people by offering scholarships to 5 deserving clients.

No matter what your New Year’s goals this year, try infusing some of these non-financial goals in your business in 2022.
