4 Blogging Lies You’ve Been Told

If you’re a female business owner, chances are you’ve been told a thing or two about blogging.

And chances are, those things were lies. Big, fat, whopping lies.

Here are four of the most common lies you’ve been told about blogging —and the truth behind them.

Lie #1: You Have to be an Expert to Blog

This is probably the biggest lie out there. You don’t have to be an expert on your topic to blog — you just have to be passionate about it.

There are plenty of people out there who are experts in their field, but horrible writers. On the flip side, there are plenty of people who aren’t experts but are fantastic writers.

The bottom line is that if you’re passionate about your topic and can communicate that passion in your writing, you’ll be great.

Lie #2: You Have to Write Long Posts to be Successful

This one couldn’t be further from the truth.

In fact, some of the most successful bloggers out there write short, punchy posts that are easy to read and digest. The key is not necessarily the length of your posts, but the quality of your content.

As long as you’re providing value to your readers, they’ll keep coming back for more — regardless of whether your posts are 500 words or 5,000 words.

Lie #3: Blogging Takes Too Much Time

Sure, blogging takes some time — but it doesn’t have to take a lot of time.

If you batch-write your posts or repurpose old content, you can easily pump out high-quality content without spending hours at your computer.

The key is to be efficient with your time and use a system that works for you.

Lie #4: Everyone Who Reads Your Blog will Agree With You

This is perhaps the most unrealistic expectation out there. Not everyone is going to agree with everything you say — and that’s okay!

As long as you’re respectful and open-minded in your writing, disagreement from readers can actually lead to some great discussions and help you hone your viewpoint.

So don’t sweat it if someone leaves a negative comment on your blog post — it just means they’re reading!

Don’t believe everything you hear — especially when it comes to blogging! There are lots of misconceptions out there about what it takes to be a successful blogger.

But as long as you’re passionate about your topic and respectful of other viewpoints, you’ll be just fine. So go forth and blog like a boss!
