How Creative Business Owners Can Save Time

If you’re a creative business owner, chances are you’ve struggled with time management at some point.

After all, there’s only so many hours in the day, and when you’re trying to wear all the hats in your business, time management can be a real challenge.

Never fear! These three time management tips are here to help you make the most of your time so you can focus on what you do best: being creative!

3 Tips for How Creative Business Owners Can Save Time

1. Set a schedule…and stick to it!

The first step to better time management is setting a schedule…and sticking to it.

I know, I know. As a creative, you’re used to working on your own schedule.

But if you want to be successful in business, you need to start thinking about time in a different way.

Creating a schedule will help you stay focused and on track. And while it may seem restrictive at first, following a schedule will actually give you more freedom in the long run because you’ll know exactly what needs to be done and when it needs to be done.

Put it into practice

Consider what time of day you work best getting your “must-dones” complete. (Most of us work best in the morning, when our brains are fresh.)

Block out this time out for your business tasks, then spend time later in the day following your creative intuition.

2. Batch your tasks

The second step to better time management is batching your tasks. This means grouping similar tasks together and working on them all at once.

For example, if you need to write three blog posts, do all the research for those posts in one sitting. Or if you need to design three new products, work on all the designs at the same time.

By batching your tasks, you’ll save yourself time and energy because you won’t have to switch gears as often. You’ll also be able to work more quickly and efficiently because you’ll already be in “the zone.”

Put it into practice

Think about all the similar tasks you need to do this week: assigning tasks, checking in with clients, planning projects, creating content, etc.

Now block out time on your calendar for each of these tasks.

3. Delegate, delegate, delegate!

The third and final step to better time management is learning how to delegate.

As a creative business owner, it’s easy to think that you have to do everything yourself. But that’s just not true! There are plenty of people out there who would love to help you with your business…you just have to ask.

When it comes to delegation, my number one piece of advice is this: start small. Don’t try to hand off everything at once.

Start with one or two simple tasks that someone else can handle for you (like social media or customer service) and then go from there. Once you get the hang of delegating, I promise it will change your life!

Put it into practice

Think about the tasks that bog you down. (You know, the ones you spend 5 hours thinking about that only take about 5 minutes to complete.)

These are the perfect tasks to start delegating first!

Does blogging bog down your creativity?

Creative business owners are always looking for new ways to save time. And these three tips are a great place to start! By setting a schedule, batching your tasks, and delegating whenever possible, you’ll find that you have more time than ever before to focus on what matters most: being creative!
