How to Spice Up Your Twitter Presence: 5 Ways to Come Back to Twitter

Twitter and I have a love-hate relationship.

One day, I love using it and the next, I’ll go a few days Twitter-free.

While I’d never recommend that type of behavior to a client, the good news is: you can always come back from a Twitter hiatus.

1. Check your new followers and follow back

You’ll find over time that you’ll get followers of all shapes and sizes. Never choose to auto follow back. Instead, check out each person quickly before choosing to follow them back.

Instead of having to log in online or via mobile, I’ve found the best way to see if you have new followers is to simply check your email as you get new follower requests. Or, you can log into your account and check your followers on a regular basis.

Following other tweeps back with help you interact, engage, and expand your circle.

2. Follow some new people

Do regular searches through Facebook and use Twitter’s tools to find tweets, people, photos, or videos according to your search terms.

Try to do these searches at least once a week so you can continue to expand your audience.

3. Use a 3rd party service to post

There are a number of 3rd party services for Twitter; some help you create timed posts, others help you keep track of interactions and reach, and still others do a little bit of everything.

Amongst my favorites is TweetDeck, a service which you can delay posts with, separate people and subjects into columns, post to other social networks, and even tweet or post from multiple accounts.

4. Make sure you check your favs

If you look at your “home” feed online or on your mobile device, Twitter can be a little overwhelming.

Using a tool like TweetDeck, be sure to create columns for your favorite tweeps: those people in your industry that are must-follows, friends and family, and anyone who you don’t want to miss what they’ve said.

5. Post everyday

This is the rule I like to break; but learn from my mistakes: do what you can to create 1 post nearly every day. If you miss a day or two, don’t stress; but the reality is: the more content you put out there, the more opportunities there will be for your business and for you.
