How to Be a Better Web Marketer in Just One Hour a Day
One of the biggest excuses we hear from people who don’t want to do more with their web marketing efforts is “there isn’t enough time.” We know, we know…we’ve used that one too.
What if we told you that you can market your business better in just one hour a day? And that time could be spread amongst other people in your company.
Let’s say you only have the responsibility of 15 minutes of that hour. Could you make room for 15 minutes of web marketing a day? Sure you can.

So let’s say you choose lunch time do spend your hour of web marketing time. Here’s how you could spend it. Ready, set, start the timer.
12:00 – 12:15pm: Blogging
Spend this time writing part of your blogpost for the week. You have all week – 5 days or 5 blocks of 15 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes in total) to write your post. It isn’t going live until a week from now.
(You can also use this time to create other types of content if you don’t have a blog or have additional sources of content you are responsible for, such as an email newsletter.)
12:15 – 12:25pm: Editorial Calendar
Update your editorial calendar. Try to get as much accomplished in this 10 minutes as you can. You should be able to come up with at least several days of content and, don’t forget, you’re going to have time to do this every day.
12:25 – 12:30pm: Posting
Update your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. accounts for that day. This should be quick and easy, as you already have your posts laid out in your editorial calendar.
Social media management tools (like Hootsuite and TweetDeck) can really help take the time and guessing out of logging in and out multiple accounts.

During this time, you’re going to engage your audience. Depending on the number of accounts you have and the amount of comments
- Review and reply to any blog comments.
- Review and reply to Facebook comments or messages.
- Review and reply to any Twitter mentions. Follow 5-10 new accounts on Twitter.
- Review and reply to Google+ comments.
- Review and reply to Instagram comments. Follow 5-10 new accounts on Instagram.
12:40 – 12:50pm: Research
From blog research to SEO to checking on the competition, these ten minutes are saved for web marketing research.
12:50 – 1:00pm: Measurement
Depending on what your web marketing efforts include, you may want to switch up where you spend your time here. Our recommendation is not to check any of these every single day. Rather, check one at a time.
- Review your Google Analytics. Pay special attention to any major changes in stats. Also, check for keywords visitors use, popular blogposts, social media referrals, and anything else you’ve been hard at work on.
- Review your Facebook Analytics. You can also use this time to review Facebook ads if you have them.
- Review your Google AdWords account.
And that’s it! Your one hour is up and you’re that much closer to being a web marketing rockstar!
Obviously if your web marketing plan includes things outside of what we mentioned here – ads, for example – you may need to build in additional time during your day or swap out time from something else.
