Who is Nicki Hicks?

The following post is apart of Alex Beadon’s Feel Good Blogging Challenge. While I’m usually skeptical about doing things like this, I think it’s going to be a powerful blogging exercise.

This post contains some affiliate links, which means – at no additional cost to you – I will earn a commission if you click through a link for a product that I wholeheartedly recommend and make a purchase.

Who are you?

My name is Nicki Hicks. I grew up in Maryland, moved to Maine when I was 14, then moved to Florida on a whim when I was 24. (It ended up being one of the best decisions of my life.)

By day, I’m an entrepreneur: I help small businesses be the best they can be online. By night, I coach college cheerleading.

One of the most important things about me is that I have a wide variety of interests – and I’m passionate about all of them. (Hell, just read my blog!) From health and fitness to artistic outlets to having new and unique experiences, I want the most I can get out of life.

Why did you start blogging?

Originally, I started blogging for work.

Back in the start of my career in 2008 when I was with flyte new media full-time, I started the Maine SEO Blog (now apart of the flyte blog). I still blog about business over at simple sprout, as well as for my blogging clients.

In 2009, I decided to start NickiHicks.com for more personal posts. It became my way of sharing thoughts and working through issues in my head that were bothering me.

Who is your blog for?

My personal blog – the one that you’ve found yourself on – is really for everyone. I’d like to think that everyone can find something here. However, I gear it mostly towards women of all ages.

Whether it’s a tip about how to get to the gym more or how to make a wine cork board or something of a more personal nature, my hope is that anyone can find a little something to inspire them here.

What’s something you’ve been working on lately that you’re REALLY proud of?

Interesting question and a good one, as I believe it’s important to take stock of the work that we do. Instead of just moving on to the next project, it’s valuable to ask yourself this very thing.

So what am I proud of? Helping to publish this book.

Over the past few months, I’ve helped the author, Richard Hallstein, turn his manuscript into a living, breathing, self-published masterpiece. The reason I’m proud of it? It’s a beautiful piece, from cover to cover.

In it, Richard shares deep and thoughtful experiences and tips that aren’t just for those of us who are working through a loss. They’re for everyone; and to do one of the things I love most: get you to think.

What’s the ONE MESSAGE you hope people take away from your blog?

I want to make people think.

It’s something that we do less and less, I believe: read something on the Internet and move on to the next, never really thinking. So that’s what I want to do. I want to get your wheels churning about something…anything!

Maybe it’s a viewpoint you hadn’t taken into account or how you can be a better you or maybe just some ways you can work on being healthier. Whatever it is…just think about it.
